A mother's love

Sometimes Wally Ben will lift up his eyebrows in a way that says, wow, look at that, really? And it is a face that makes me so overwhelmed with this feeling, this realization, of something that I know that I know and feel but that surprises me every time I feel it—man, I love this kid! Usually at these moments, I realize that I am reflecting on how much I love him. I want to put it into words so…

Wally Ben Babbles

Wally Ben has taken to babbling for a few days, then stopping. My favorite are the babbling days. It all started with him making all matter of noises, and realizing it was pretty fun. He was going on and on…"ah, nah, dah, naaaaaaah, dah." This followed a 3-4 month vow of silence, so I was afraid to interrupt for fear that he'd stop. But I went ahead and, since his sounds included some "dah"s, I…

Wally Ben's First Library Class

We went to Gail Borden's "Wonderful Ones" class tonight, the first in a series of 6 weekly classes for kids 9-24 months old. The classes are on Thursday from 6:15-6:45, and include 15 minutes of stories, singing, rhymes, and dancing, and then 15 minutes of playtime. They also offer sessions during the day, but we picked the 6:15 time so the whole family could go. The class included around 12 kids…

My New Favorite Place to Shop—Moms of Multiples Sales

This past weekend I heard from my sister in law about a "Cluster Sale" in Tinley Park. The only thing I knew was that she would be going at 7:30 to wait in line, although the sale didn't start until 9AM. A friend she was going with had been to the sale the prior spring, and let us know that if you wanted particular big items or the best choice of clothing, it was a good idea to get there early to…

Silver Lake in my PJs, by Wally Ben

It's official. I'm a Loony. This is Wally Ben writing, since my mom lets me write about my trips because I tell it better. I spent the last week in Silver Lake, Michigan with over 60 of my Grandma Ott's side of the family, called the Loonies. I'm not really sure where that name came from, but there are a lot of stories that make the name make sense. In one story, my dad says when he was a kid,…

Our little 9 month old comedian

Unintentionally, Wally Ben makes us laugh. Sometimes I suspect he means to--he does something over and over and I wonder if we have a little ham on our hands. But a lot of the time, just being his nine-month-old self gets a good chuckle out of us. His sounds contribute to his comedy show a lot. He cooed here and there until he was 4 months old. Then he screamed for a few days. Then he got bored…

This Is What Stubborn Looks Like

I went to my mom and dad's today for a pool day, and to work during his naps. All was going well. We had a great time swimming—perhaps too much fun, since when it came time for his nap, he was not happy. He cried, which isn't unusual. He occassionally cries for a few minutes before a nap, especially when he isn't at home. I was in the room next door, so I could hear him crying. Then his cries…

Wally Ben's First Kiss

We were at Vacation Bible School in the nursery (a friend of mine said, of course, it always happens at Vacation Bible School...). Wally Ben was playing with all the new baby toys, and had taken notice of the other baby in the room, nearly 1 yr. old Adalaide, a few times. Once they warmed up to the idea of each other, they started to play with the same toys. At one point, when they were sitting…

Celebrating our 2 year anniversary. What do couples do?

Wednesday, June 30 marked 2 years since our fabulous Mexico wedding. Normally we don't make big deals about birthdays and anniversaries around here. Ever since the morning of my 11th birthday, when I didn't wake up with my heart pounding out of my chest like I usually did on my big day—from then on, I've had a more laid back approach to birthdays and anniversaries. The way I see it, I'm a day…
